Dec 21/11

Wow, the site is being updated!!!

It had to happen eventually.  BTW, Merry Christmas everybody!  And to my politically correct faithless friends, Merry Christmas!  It's my site, sue me.

The Twang Bastards train has been rolling along, riding the ups and downs of this crazy business.  Club closings and openings have left us stranded for gigs at times and with new ones at others.  Oh well, we'll get by one way or the other.

For those of you who haven't seen us lately we've really added to the song list.  The most fun addition has been The Sign by Ace Of Base.  My feet just can't help but move.  And I'm definitely not much of a dancer!

Music Of The Moment

Instead of a particular album, I've really had fun with a new website that I've been getting old albums from.  Stuff I haven't even thought of since my teenage years.  The site is:

www.filestube.com

For each one just ignore the adds for "Premium" accounts and find the "free" or "slow" download button, enter the captcha (if applicable) and download your album.  Your kid inside you will thank you!

Oct 14/10

We're up in Timmins getting ready to play tonight.  Easy drive with no incidents.  Hooray for the north!

Saw Bill Durst at Boomerang's a few weeks ago.  All I can say is that I was blown away and anyone who knows me knows how openly honest and critical I am about music.  Go see Bill live before he finally packs it in and retires.  You won't be sorry.

November 21st is the benefit for Jason Dahlke.  Jay is out of the hospital and on the mend, but is in need of financial help.  It's going to be at Boomerang's starting at 2 pm (starting time subject to change).  Great lineup of bands including The 88's, The Sisters Of Soul, Bill Eldridge, The Twang Bastards, Free Ride, Rick Steeves, Steve Dumont, etc.  A complete lineup will be posted when available.

Music Of The Moment - Blackberry Smoke - New Honky Tonk Bootlegs

Forget about Blackberry Smoke's new record, Little Piece Of Dixie.  The Nashville hype machine is calling their new album the best thing since sliced bread.  Blah.  Another Southern Rock band watered down by Nashville.  Check out their ep of true Country stuff.  Very retro.

Peace out, Jeff.

Sept. 06/10

Hey everybody, Big Jeff here.  I thought I'd give a little glimpse into each gig here so anyone who cares can see what they missed.  This past weekend we played at Big Shots in Chatham.  First off, my GOODNESS they can cook a burger!!!  I was kinda glad they asked us to pack up the next day so I could come back and try out another of their 24 different burgers.  Mmmmm......

I want to thank Julie Ross and crew for sticking around Friday night.  Julie and her daughter Linz play on the patio at Big Shots every Friday night from 5-9, and then the band inside starts.  As most of you know, we tend to play quite a few oddball songs.  Not a lot of people appreciate and "get" this, but Julie and Jeff and crew do.  You guys make playing these songs feel incredible.  I love exposing people to great music that isn't readily available on the radio or iTunes.

Overall a good gig with a better turnout Friday, but Saturday wasn't too shabby either.

Music of the moment - The Bottle Rockets - The Brooklyn Side.  Great Americana record with memorable melodies and amazing guitar tones!  Can't be too bad if John Hiatt covers one of your songs...

Possible gig this weekend at The Player's Club (old Jersey's) in Chatham.  If you're driving by, stop in and tell them they need The Bastards!!!

Peace, Jeff
